Ethnographers who studied material culture often pointed to this problem (Bogoraz-Tan 1991: 35). Some emphasized that material culture was closely related to other cultural traits found in culture (Ibid: 48). Kinship systems were discussed in a number of other works (Tokarev 1929; Semenov 1973à). The study of earlier forms of social organization remained an important direction of research (Popov 1993; Radcliffe-Brown 1952).1 Scholars in psychology drew attention to the importance of studying thinking in cultural research (Vygotsky 1982: 50). Of interest are many other research areas: ethnic groups and processes (Bromley 1978, 1988); minorities and their rights (Tishkov 2003; Berrett 1; Berrett 2); migration processes (Kelley et al. 1998); ethnic conflicts (Stepanov et al. 2003); economic anthropology (Malinowski 1920a; 1920b); culture styles (Schapiro 1952). Much is done in the area of archival work (ARGO 1: 17–18; ARGO 2; RGADA: 2–5). The author of this article has recently collected interesting folklore data (PMA 1: Ivanova; PMA 2: notebooks 1, 2).
