The editors' introduction to the special theme of the issue on the prominent Russian ethnographer and anthropologist Sergei Shirokogoroff (1887-1939) briefly presents the focus of the articles written by D.V. Arzyutov, T.D. Bulgakova, A.A. Sirina and V.N. Davydov. Their authors discuss the little-known aspects of Shirokogoroff's scholarly work, such as research on visual materials, ethnographic collections, and methodology of shamanism studies.
